How to Sow

  • Space cloves 6 inches apart in rows of at least 6-12 inches
  • Make holes in your compost deep enough to cover the cloves with 2 inches of soil
  • Plant cloves in the soil with the root (flat) side down, and the shoot (pointy end) upwards
  • Cover with 2 inches of soil and lightly pat down

Plant Care

  • Water every 14 days during long dry spells
  • If flower stalk start to appear, remove them immediately (and use them in stir frys!)
  • Once the bulbs have reached maturity, the stalks will begin to turn a yellowish colour and fall to the ground

AllotMe’s Tips

  • Be careful not to plant too shallow, otherwise the bulbs can come out green, and won't last as long in storage
  • If the bulbs have started to split it means you've harvested too late!
