How to Sow
Can be sowed indoors all year round, or outdoors during the warmer months
Take a pinch of seeds and sprinkle thinly into each pot or cell
Cover the seeds with 0.5cm of compost, pat down and gently water
For outdoor direct sowing, make drills approx 1cm deep, spaced approx 6 inches apart
Plant Care
When the seedling emerge, thin them out so that the remaining plants are at least 1 inch apart
Lettuce thrives in partial shade, so be careful during the summer months, and take care to water them as needed to avoid wilting
AllotMe’s Tips
Watch out for slugs! You can help to deter them by making a slug trap: Submerege a half cup of (cheap) beer in your soil to lure them away from your greens!
For really shady areas, lettuce still works great, but try the loose leaf varities instead
