How to Sow

  • Use seed trays or pots filled with seed compost and sow the seeds about 1/4 inch deep.
  • Keep the seed trays or pots in a propagator or cover them with a plastic bag to retain moisture and warmth.
  • Once the seedlings have grown to about 3 inches tall and have several leaves, they are ready to be transplanted.

Plant Care

  • When all danger of frost has passed, transplant the seedlings into the garden. Choose a sunny spot with well-draining soil.
  • Space the plants about 18 inches apart in rows that are 2-3 feet apart. Water the plants in well after transplanting.
  • Water the plants every 7-10 days during dry spells, and fertilise them every 4-6 weeks with an organic balanced fertiliser.

AllotMe’s Tips

  • Keep an eye out for pests such as aphids and caterpillars, and diseases such as clubroot and black rot.
  • Use organic methods such as neem oil or insecticidal soap to control pests, and remove any infected plants to prevent the spread of disease.
